The car is part of the Dino series, whose name was in memory of the son of the founder of the Maranello company, Dino Ferrari, who had also designed its V6 engine and whose acronym was the result of the 2000 cm³ engine displacement, followed from 6 which represented the number of cylinders. The Ferrari brand did not appear on the car but rather the writing Dino in italics on a yellow background. Its creation followed a long gestation, as six prototypes were produced by Pininfarina between 1965 and 1967, while the official presentation of the final version took place on November 1st at the Turin Motor Show.
