This spider (A stands for open) produced in a limited series of 499 units is the highest-performing in Ferrari history, thanks to active aerodynamics and the new V8 engine. The 0–100 km/h acceleration is 3.0 seconds and the chassis made of 10 aluminum alloys uses aerospace materials and technologies. The hard top opens or closes in just 14 seconds, the car has latest-generation electronics and in particular the electronic side slip angle control (SSC).

Compared to the coupé version, the new 458 Speciale A has the same bumper solution at the front, it has vertical fins on the sides of the car that serve to direct the air flow along the side. Other cutting-edge aerodynamic elements have been used on the wheel arches, where slits have been created that expel the hot air flows coming from the radiating masses and direct them towards the rear flow deviator. Ferrari engineers have also created a new front hood, which features a larger vent in the center, which is embellished and made more aggressive by a vertical profile corresponding to the colored band. In the side area, two small bulkheads have also been placed in front of the rear wheels, which have the purpose of reducing the turbulence that is created by the motion of the wheels when they turn at high speed.
