For the 1977 Rally sports season, the French company Renault developed a racing version of the popular R5 subcompact. Although this car was born for very different purposes, the French technicians managed to obtain, after adequate preparation, a considerable power from the engine: well 150CV, and a remarkable torque ratio which thanks to the low weight of only 800 Kg. R5 a very maneuverable and fast car. The R5 achieved remarkable placings in the 1978 Sanremo and Montecarlo Rallies, and subsequently achieved flattering results in the Acropolis Rally competitions, and in Africa.
